In this topic we set out to design a carnival costume for the deadly sins, we got to choose which sin we wanted to create and my group chose Wrath. However, at the start of the module we began with some experimentation.
Just using cane, paper and scraps of fabric we had the challenge to quickly construct a sculpture that depicted our given deadly sin. For these pictures my group had Lust and Envy.
After a week of experimentation we then set to work designing our final costume, we chose our deadly sin (Wrath) and started brainstorming. We drew what we thought wrath would look like and this was our top pick from my group.

Working from this design was quite tricky which explains why we started off with a flower design.

So we had to change our idea a bit and we thought up adjectives related to fire, such as chaos, uncontrollable and all-consuming. These gave us the plan of wrapping the plasterzote up the wooden sticks to make it look like it was consuming it. We decided to make the costume appear bird like as we were inspired by this image of a fire peacock. The image conveys a feeling of wrath and so we incorporated it into the design.
After presenting our costume to Clary Salandy, a carnival costume designer, we followed up on our feedback that the costume needed to depict the anger of Wrath. So we changed our design slightly.

We attached fabric to fishing poles to convey a feeling of Wrath and chaos and used it in our final performance. I was unable to attend as I had Covid sadly but I have some final photos.
We also made a small model of our design to show how we would envision our performance if we had different materials. We wanted to use black fabric as if it was the rage swirling around our main costume.
