Puppet Project

We began by creating the very base of our puppet head. Using clay to make our head shape I struggled to not make myself look like an alien however, due to the clay tools and the brilliant help from my lecturers I managed to make a normal face in clay...or semi normal.

After that I covered it in tin foil and then in a layer of a weird plastic called worblar. I had to leave a gap at the bottom and then I scooped out all my clay, which wasn’t very fun. I made some hands to go with it and added my facial features, including a third eye, which I decided to include to make my puppet stand out from everyone else's.

Overall, with the worblar, I struggled the most with the hair, I burnt myself multiple times and ran out of time in my second workshop, so I had to finish at home. However, I discovered that I worked better at home with a hairdryer instead of a heat gun, and so my hair was completed this way instead.

All that was left to do was to paint it and make a costume. I covered it in a layer of Jesso and then painted it with acrylics.

Here is my final puppet, scary right? We chose a 'Covid Dream' and wrote a short script then performed it. Looking back, I would try and be more confident when I acted out my show however, I have learnt many skills throughout this project and used materials which I will be using in the future in my chosen career of theatre and set design.

The puppet definitely moves around my house at night by the way!
